Ukraine '43

Plans of attack :

Voronej Front

The objective of the front will be to control Sumy, which will serve as an anchor for a South/Southeast attack to overrun and surround Kharkov.

Steppe Front :

An attack to envelop Belgorod in support of the Voronezh front.

South-West Front :

Attempt to cross the Donetz

South front :

Thrust on the railroad

Beginning of T2

On the Voronezh front, Sumi was evacuated, but the Viking counterattack brilliantly and broke the encirclement around Belgorod.

Already the Soviet logistic lines are very tense. The railroad lines must first be secured before hoping to go further.

On the southern front, the attacks were successful and a breakthrough of the 5th Shock was achieved.

Beginning T3

Starting from Poltava, the counter offensive of the PzGdR is violent, and Sumy is taken back

Beginning T4

Threatened with encirclement, Sumy was abandoned by the Germans while Belgorod was taken by force.

In the South, the Soviet forces were very successful. The GD is sent to Pavlograd.

Beginning T6

Voronezh Front: the advance is violently counterattacked by 6 armored divisions. The advance was stopped, but the counterattacks were also costly for the Germans.

Kharkov: the advance continues, but here too the resistance is tough.

Steppe Front: The Donets has been passed.

Southern Front: the progress is good and Stalino has fallen. The Germans are gradually withdrawing.

Turn 11 - 21 Septembre - 11 PV

The attack develops on 3 axes:

- Central and Voronezh fronts: assault and capture of Konotop

- Voronezh and South West Fronts: concentric assaults around Kharkov

- Southern Front: capture of Mariopol thanks to the arrival of the 3rd Tank Army.

Despite the resistance of Kharkov, the Stavka is satisfied (for the moment) with the progress of the troops

On the other side, the German elite divisions started to wear out and the incessant counter-attacks had more and more difficulty to slow down the flow.

Turn 14 - 6 october - 14 objectives

the rain begins to fall.

The defenders are exhausted everywhere and the Soviet breakthroughs are more and more difficult to counter.

However, Poltava resists and the Stavka is close to stop the offensive, because of the lack of expected results...

Turn 15 - 11 octobre

the weather turns nice. Under pressure of the stavka, the objectives must absolutely be reached!

the paratroopers are dropped on Zapororoje and grebenkovski which fall easily.

in the same time Poltava falls under the blows of 2 armies of tank, and in spite of the personal intervention of v. Manstein.

All that rolls is mobilized to roll on the body of paras and the objectives are taken again. But the unexpected fall of poltava is enough for the stavka

Turn 16 - 16 PV

The German troops are almost in rout and try to regroup and cross the Dnieper

End of turn 16 - 18 PV

The Germans are desperate, the Dnieper is about to be crossed, but the Stavka, fed up with the delays of the offensive, suddenly decides to stop the attacks. The river will not be crossed before winter...

Defensive victory for the Germans
