Crossing the Line - Campaign

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

End turn 1

A lot of movement during this first turn, with the 9th US division violently attacked by the 116th Pz, itself roughly countered by the American tanks.

The affair turns into a rout for the Germans who lose half of their division .

On the side of the approach of Aachen, the American infantrymen push hard !!

End turn 2

The situation is stabilizing.

Facing the Panthers, the Shermans remained cautiously on the defensive. The order of the day: wait for the withdrawal of the enemy armor and count on the push of the infantrymen to erode the enemy resistance.

Turn 3

The 1st Div pushes through the drill, annihilating the defenders and opening a hole in the defense

But the 9th Pz, taking advantage of the wait-and-see attitude of the American Shermans, and of its announced withdrawal from the front, violently counter-attacked the infantrymen, who were pushed back with heavy losses.

Start Turn 4

The German tanks were withdrawn from the front, replaced by some JagdPanther and Tiger2.

The Americans receive strong reinforcements

Germans withdraw in Aachen

Start Turn 5

The XIX Corps has broken through a corner towards Kochfeild and the defenders are overwhelmed. A large part of the German reinforcements were directed there to stop the breakthrough.

In front of Aachen, the Americans gathered to try a frontal action.

The 3rd Armored and the 9th Division entered Kornelimunster and wore down the defenses

End turn 5

The defenders are completely apathetic. lack of supplies? Air interdiction? Outdated command? Whatever the reason, the VIIth Corps entered Herzogenrath and destroyed the defenses. The 108th Pz brigade did not react.

The first suburbs of Aachen are invested

Start turn 6

a magnificent 116th Pz reconstituted goes up in line. But the 2nd armored is reinforced .

and the allied fighters are on the rise...

this turn, the americans will benefit from 37 possible activations, against 22 on the german side.

Finally the american HQ designates an objective : it will be Aachen.

The 3rd Armored broke through the lines. The only German operational reserve, the 116th, waits for its time

Start turn 7

US: 32 possible activations for 6 divisions

Germans: 32 activations for 7 divisions

In front of the American armoured push, the German reinforcements failed in their counter-attacks and were forced to defend.

Aachen must not fall. The defenders will not retreat!

Start of turn 8 ( last)

36 possible activations vs 29

The big red one connects 3 activations and manages to seize the center of Aachen at the price of enormous losses.

The 116th Pz cleared its almost encircled Kampfgruppe by inflicting strong losses to the 2nd Armored.

After these last efforts, the 2 camps are exhausted and the situation seems blocked.

end of game during turn 8 :

Minor German victory!

a very interesting system, which requires a habituation to appreciate it because it implies many changes of sides, with actions which can be chopped.

the battle is a matter of attrition in a rather closed theater and between 2 camps with very interesting armored forces, the Germans being superior thanks to their various felines, but with less resources and no reinforcements.
